As a textiles student, when I think of fashion I don’t think of clothing. I think of print and surface. I look at the texture of the fabric used, and how the print is applied. In terms of areas of fashion, we have the likes of:

menswear, womenswear, missy wear (teen girls), children, babies, sleepwear, lingerie, swimwear/beachwear, sport, corporate, utility and wedding.

The fashion industry also falls into differing market levels, those being (in descending order):

Haute couture, ready to wear, top end high street, middle market high street, bottom end high street and designer maker.

Designer maker can fall anywhere on the spectrum, depending on the person, how they make and what they make.
